About The Binary Tool Foundry

The Binary Tool Foundry was founded in 1990 by Marcus Redivo to develop AS/400 and Windows system utilities, services, middleware and drivers. With a strong AS/400 background going back to 1983 on the predecessor System/38, Mr. Redivo was formerly the technical architect for a software development company that sold packaged AS/400 software to businesses and governments across Canada.

About Marcus Redivo

Marcus Redivo is a Software Developer with over twenty years experience in the Information Technology sector. He has extensive experience both as a developer of commercially-sold software, and as a developer of in-house systems. This experience covers all aspects of the development life cycle, from determination and analysis of user requirements, to developing application architecture, to writing software, through to installation of the finished product at client sites.

Mr. Redivo has demonstrated his versatility by becoming thoroughly proficient in three completely different system environments: first in IBM mid-range systems (System/34, System/38, AS/400), then in Microsoft DOS and the Windows family, and more recently Unix. This broadness of experience is evident in the quality of the decisions he makes.

Drawing on his experience in completely unrelated fields, Mr. Redivo communicates well verbally and in writing at all levels of an organization. He is able to engage people from upper and middle management, to clerical and shop-floor workers in a way that assures them they have been understood.

Mr. Redivo observes:

“My approach to software development is best characterized as 'engineering', as opposed to 'wizardry'. While I appreciate a good 'wizard hack' as much as anyone, I believe that the best software is simple, reliable, readable, and well documented at an application level.

“The best software can quickly be understood and modified by someone other than the author; that is the type of software I pride myself on writing.”
